Rebecca and Family,
So sorry to learn of the passing of your beloved Mother. I have happy memories of sleepovers at her house and the pleasant conversation she provided every time. I remember your Dad's book store. Also, the beautiful dogs that were raised there. I hope the happy memories will carry you through this tough time and beyond! With love, Cheryl

Dear Mr. Hawthorne and Family--

For some reason I thought it necessary to check the Index-Journal for obituaries, and I came across the sad news. Mrs. Hawthorne might be the reason I became a writer. Out of all of the English classes in junior high and high school, hers was the only one that I enjoyed. I wish that I'd have known about her early upbringing--I have spent a lot of time in Greenwood and Jackson, Mississippi over the last couple decades. I'll be sure to drop by the book store next time I'm in Tryon. I hope that y'all make it through these grief-filled days. Sincerely--George Singleton

Marilyn was one of my favorite teachers at Greenwood High School in the 1970's. I learned to love literature from her, a passion that has stuck with me throughout my lifetime. I will always treasure that gift she gave me! She and Donald were such close friends with my mom and dad (Rose and Cliff Fagan). They spent many an evening together laughing, talking, and sharing stories. My prayers and sympathy to all the family and her friends who will miss her dearly.

Mr. Hawthorne, Benji, Marcus, Jonathan, and Rebecca, and families. Our family was sad to read about Marilyn's passing away. She and mom, Norma Johnson, had some longwinded and fun (I'm sure) conversations in their time here years ago. She was a lovely person to all of us and I know she'll be missed by all of you! Take care.

Ben, we are so very sorry about your loss. I knew Marilyn and your dad while your sister was my piano student. I had no idea she was so active in theater, although knowing her character, it should not surprise. Please convey our sympathies to your sister.......I just lost my mom in December, so I know the grief is real, and moreover, complex. Prayers.
