William R. Schaeffer

William R.  Schaeffer, age 95, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, in Columbus, North Carolina, where he spent his time with his daughter, Sheila and 2 granddaughters, Katie and Lily.

Born on October 1, 1929, William was a graduate of Dater School. He was signed by the NY Giants baseball team in 1948. He built a lifelong career as a self-employed skilled carpenter, known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his trade.  After retiring from carpentry, he continued to serve his community by working at the Ramsey Recycling Center for 25 years.

William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Joan Schaeffer; his parents, William Kenneth Schaeffer and Louise Schaeffer; and his three brothers, Roger Schaeffer, Ronald Schaeffer, and John Schaeffer.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Schaeffer and Sheila Mundy; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.  Known affectionately as “Pop Pop,” William was a devoted husband and father whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
