Walter Gernot Flaschar passed away January 19, 2023, at the age of 93.
He was born in Albany, California in 1929, to Erich and Irmfried Flaschar, and graduated from high school in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Walter graduated from Ohio State University, and continued to cheer on OSU’s football team throughout his life. In 1951, Walter married the love of his life, Nancy Holz. Together, they had a wonderful, fun, and meaningful life for 71 years, filled with love, friendship, and adventure. He was a successful businessman in a few different endeavors over the course of his career. However, Walter’s greatest achievements came outside of work, as he and Nancy raised four children while always contributing to the betterment of the community in which they resided. His final “career” came into being shortly after he and Nancy moved to Tryon in 1991. Together, they served the local community in numerous ways, always ready to lend a hand or organize an event. Their years here were among the happiest and most rewarding.
Walter will be missed by his family and many dear friends. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children Scott (Lisa), Barrett, William (Judy), and Lowry (Todd); 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Walter was a veteran of the Navy and served in the Korean War.
At his request, there will be no services, but please feel free to raise a glass in his memory.
