Robert Maxwell Coy, Sr age 95 of Tryon Estates passed away October 6, 2022.
Max was born May 11, 1927 in Vandergrift, PA to Gordon L Coy and Myrtle Virginia Coy (Houck). He graduated from Norristown High School in 1945 where he served as president of his class. Max served in the US Army from 1945-1947. He was stationed in Italy. He graduated with honors from Pennsylvania State University in 1951 receiving a B.S. in Forestry. In August of 1951 Max married Nancy Louise Anderson. They were married for 71 years. Max worked as a Forester for the State of Pennsylvania. In 1966 he became District Forester of 5 counties with the office located in Bloomsburg PA. He retired in 1991 after 35 years of service. Max took great pride in his community service endeavors. He served as President of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club. He was the first President of the Bloomsburg YMCA after it became chartered. He served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a board member of the Bloomsburg Town Park Association. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Order of Elks. After retiring Max and Nancy enjoyed traveling. Max loved working in his garden and wood workshop, fishing in Canada with his sons and hiking the Grand Canyon with friends.
He is survived by three children, Robert (Bob) Coy of Bloomsburg, PA and his wife Abby, Peter Coy of Idyllwild CA and his wife Teresa and Virginia Coy Henrie of Tryon, NC and her husband Guy. Eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Tryon Estates Chapel on Saturday, November 19th at 11AM.
Memorials may be sent in his name to Tryon Presbyterian Church, the Foothills Humane Society or a charity of choice.
