Phillip McCoyle Obituary

Phillip "Fatcat" Clay McCoyle, age 56 went to his eternal resting place on March 14, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew him best.

Clay was a man who truly never met a stranger. Wherever he went, he lit up the room with his humor, his stories, and his ability to make anyone around him smile.
Clay was known for his love of sports, especially betting on the games he enjoyed so much. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and loved spending time watching the Atlanta Braves play. Some of his favorite moments were simple ones — standing around a fire with his buddies, a cold one in his hand, cracking jokes and talking for hours into the night.
One of Clay's greatest joys was his loyal dog, T-Bone, who was by his side for many years. Their bond was special and brought Clay a lot of happiness.
Clay loved his family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them. He was especially proud of reconnecting with his son, Charlie. Though life took them on different paths for a time, Clay treasured the opportunity to spend time with him again later in life. He also lovingly raised his dear nephew Dereck, who meant the world to him. And he was not just an uncle but to some like William, James and Cherish he was their world and best friend.
Clay often spoke of the friends who had gone before him. He remembered them daily and carried their memories close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel McCoyle; his mother, Sue McCoyle; his brothers, Dean McCoyle and Ted McCoyle; and his sister, Patsy McCoyle.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Charlie; his brother, Michael McCoyle and Peggy McCoyle; his brother, Ned McCoyle; his twin sister and significant other; along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
"Fatcat" will always be remembered for his laughter, his loyalty to those he loved, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His stories, his humor, and his spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.

A memorial service will be 11 am. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2190 Polk County Line Rd, Rutherfordton, NC.
