Mireya B. Roake (ne Soto), passed away peacefully in her home in Mill Spring on September 13, 2024.
She had struggled valiantly with ALS for over three years. Mireya was raised in London, England in a warm and loving family. She received a degree in French and Drama from Exeter University, where she met her husband Andrew.
After college they set out to see the world, starting in Canada where Mireya had various jobs teaching French and Spanish. Andrew’s work took them and their two children to Germany, California and Connecticut. Eventually they discovered the beauty of the North Carolina foothills, where they settled for good.
Mireya was a devoted mother who enjoyed horses, cycling, art, travel and a special book club. Her footsteps will echo in these hills for all who knew and loved her. She is survived by Andrew, their daughter Elspeth and son Tom.
The family will hold a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The ALS Association.
Sanders Funeral Home.
