Marvin Michael Helton

Marvin Michael Helton 82, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 23rd, 2023 while resting at home.

Born in Polk County, NC he was the son of Kansas Ruff Helton and Uzzell Helton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers Morris (Bill) and Walt.  Also proceeding him in death are a baby sister who died at birth, and sisters Lois Kay, and Ruby. 

Marvin is survived by his sisters Emojean, Faye and Sharon, here to cherish his memories.

Marvin was a loving husband who is survived by his wife Jean of over 37 years and children Lachiel, Gerrard, Yvette, Wendy, and Michael, and step-children: Donald, Dorothy and Neil.

Marvin was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather with many young people who loved him. He has nieces and nephews who also cherish his memory.

Marvin was a carpenter and master builder who constructed many homes in Polk and Rutherford counties.  Touring the Lake Lure area you can spot many of his amazing homes.   He also constructed church buildings and office buildings and used his skills to act as a missionary in both Santa Domingo and Monterey Mexico.

Marvin was a bee-keeper and farmer.  He enjoyed harvesting food from his many toils in the soil: blueberries, figs, grapes, garlic, pears, and all the typical garden foods such as corn, okra and beans. 

Marvin was a devoted Christian and member of Cooper’s Gap Baptist Church.

Marvin Helton: Christian, husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, friend to many, carpenter, farmer, provider and a humble man of God.  His memory will be cherished.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 1:30 til 2:45 pm at Cooper's Gap Baptist Church.

Services will follow at 3 pm. in the church with Rev. Donald Hollifield officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Marvin’s memory to Four Seasons Hospice or the building fund of Cooper’s Gap Baptist Church.
