Marshall George Edwards died July 21st, 2024. He was 102 years and almost 10 months. The 102 years were mostly good though the last few months were not great. Late last year, he suffered a fall and ended up in the medical wing and then under Hospice care, moving from assisted living where he and Janet, his wife had spent the last 18 months. Impressively, he made it past his 100th birthday in independent living.
Marshall survived childhood polio, the great depression and army service in World War II to meet and marry his first wife Pat and raise 3 baby boomer children. After he and Pat grew apart, he met and married Janet with whom he’s been over 50 years, the last 15 at ACTS Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC. She will miss him terribly.
He is survived by and will be remembered fondly by 3 children (Jeff, Alison and Mark); 5 grandchildren (Jessica, Brian, Andrew, Kate and Bobby); 4 great grandchildren (Brooklynn, Emily, Brayden and Nolan); 2 daughters-in-laws (Sarah & Kathy) and 2 spouses of grandchildren (Cameron and Brian).
In addition to family, his life was defined by a strong work ethic, a high regard for education, a passion for the theater, tennis and golf as well as a strong belief in God. Over the years, he served his church in a variety of ways as well as volunteering his time in other areas.
The family wants to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care given Marshall by the medical wing staff at Tryon Estates and to the staff at Hospice.
