MSGT Robert Joseph Simmons

Robert J. Simmons, born January 10, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and dedication.

He was the son of Joseph and Clara Simmons. Due to his father’s respected work as a farm manager and cattle show judge across the country, Robert spent much of his childhood moving and experiencing life in different places, including Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Independence, Kansas.

Robert graduated from Barrington High School in Illinois in 1956. He later moved with his family to Alexandria, Louisiana, where he attended Louisiana State University and studied agriculture.

In 1958, Robert proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor and dedication. He retired in 1979 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Following his military career, Robert pursued his passion for motorsports. He became a member of NASCAR and the NSRA in 1979 and drove race cars in the Winston Cup Grand Stock Series until 1986.

In 1986, Robert made Colorado his home. He worked for a Chevrolet dealership for 22 years, building lasting relationships and earning the respect of colleagues and customers alike. He later continued his service to others by working with the Colorado Springs Transit System, where he transported individuals with disabilities, demonstrating his compassion and commitment to helping others.

Robert was a kind and generous man who loved Jesus, his family, and his country. He will be remembered for his strength, his servant’s heart, and the many lives he touched along the way.

His life was one of service, faith, and quiet strength, a legacy that will continue through all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed.
