Obituary

On July 3, 2023, Libby Gravitt Hazelwood went to be with the Lord. She was born Marion Libby Gravitt to the late Oscar Russell Gravitt and Murlin Stevens Gravitt on June 20, 1933 in Halifax County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey L. Hazelwood.

Libby worked at South Boston Bank & Trust which underwent name changes until her retirement. She was a member at Ash Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years and was a faithful servant to God.  She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross blood drives and the Good Samaritan.  Libby was known for her loving, sweet smile and enjoyed traveling, her garden and cooking for her family whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by everyone.

She is survived by her children, Debra Cage (Randy) of Halifax, Gerald Hazelwood (Donna) of Columbus, NC and Susan H. Bohn of Columbus, NC; grandchildren, Kimberly Granville (Clinton) of Landrum, SC; Robert Hazelwood (Samantha) of Tryon, NC and Sara Ball (Alex) of Cornelius, GA; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn & Connor Granville and Aubrey & Catherine Hazelwood; sister-in-law, Cecile Ingram and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Grace Oakley, Gwendolyn Martin, Ann Seat, Dixie Mouser, Russell Gravitt and a son-in-law, Paul Bohn. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times at the home of Randy & Debra Cage, 5081 Halifax Road, Halifax, Va.
