Leila Nixon Babb, 95, of Columbus, NC, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her home on December 10, 2022.
Leila was born to Mary Caldwell and Drury Nixon in Chester, SC on December 28, 1926.
Surviving her are sons, Edward and wife Julie of Hendersonville, NC, Davis and wife Anne of Seneca, SC, and daughter-in-law Marcia of Apex, NC. Leila was blessed with seven grandchildren, Lathan, Jamie, Keaton, Jackson, Leila, Carter, and Nick, and eight great-grandchildren, Finley, Austen, Miles, Karolina, Marlee, Ivy, Silas, and Fisher. She was predeceased by parents, husband Lowry Babb, son Robert Babb, and great-granddaughters Selah and Shiloh Babb.
Leila graduated with honors from Furman University with a degree in Education and a concentration in Music and went on to hold various positions in Education and Counseling. Her life was dedicated to raising three sons, being a loving wife and mother, and being a friend to all that she encountered. Her overall love of people and selflessness in everything she did made Leila a bright light in the world, leaving imprints of peace, compassion, and joy on all that she encountered.
Leila spent more than fifty years of her life in Charlotte. She was an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and a devoted member of the church choir. Leila and her late husband Lou enjoyed music, travel, golf, tennis, and bridge, and the many lasting friendships that they made throughout their lives.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC, and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City, NC.
The memorial service will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 3:00 PM.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
