Kathleen Aida Erwin age 99 of Tryon Estates passed away August 24, 2022.
Kathleen Aida Howes was born in San Jose, California on February 11, 1923, daughter of Charles Edward Howes and Aida Magdelena Duffy Howes. Kathleen was preceded in death by her two brothers, Gordon Thomas Howes and Charles Alan Howes, and her husband of many years, Joseph Erwin.
Kathleen attended Notre Dame College in Belmont, California and Julliard School of Music in New York City. She fell in love with Joseph while attending school. They shared a mutual interest in music. While Joseph was a master pianist and organist, Kathleen would accompany him on her Stradivarius Violin. After marrying and settling in Englewood, New Jersey, they enjoyed teaching and performing. As part of their retirement plan, they built a wonderful home in the woods of Tryon, North Carolina – Rondo Ridge. They moved there full time upon retirement where Joseph spent many hours composing music and Kathleen enjoyed many hours of gardening and feeding the wild animals. They were both very active in the local church and The Music Club, which meet monthly at a member’s home to put on in-home concerts.
Kathleen moved to Tryon Estates following Joseph’s passing. She was active and enjoyed walks and swimming while living in her apartment. Always a happy, upbeat and a lovely woman, she decided last year that it was time to move into Assisted Living. Kathleen enjoyed 99 years with us. She was dearly loved and her sweet, happy voice and heartwarming sole will be greatly missed.
