Joseph Robert Morlino was born in Newark, NJ on November 1, 1947, and passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was a kind, gentle guy with a great smile. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucille Naturale Morlino and Joseph Robert Morlino, Sr., as well as his brother, Bruce. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan and their two sons, Eric (Heather) and Mark (Kathe) Morlino; four grandchildren, Logan Morlino Watson (Drew), Ailish, Avery and Lucas Morlino and two great grandsons, Henry Frazier Watson and Angus Brodie Watson. Joe is also survived by his brother, Steve (Karen) Morlino and sisters-in law, Rose Attilio (Bob), Hope Morlino, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was a Ham Radio operator and a fix-it guy. He enjoyed playing golf and pool and especially loved tinkering in his workshop and restoring his classic British TR6. Joe was a computer guru early in the game, communicating through a modem connected to the telephone prior to the entrance of the first PC (of course, which he just had to have)! Having been drafted by the Army in 1967 he worked as a computer programmer until his discharge when he went back to college and completed a BS degree in Mathematics and later an MBA. After having children, he enjoyed being a baseball and soccer coach and watching both sons wrestling in high school for several years. He and Susan learned how to sail and went from a small Sunfish sailboat to a 30-foot boat they kept on Barnegat Bay, NJ. Their biggest sailing trip was from Chesapeake Bay to Bermuda! Joe said it was fun; Susan said she thought she was going to die! Joe’s career spanned many decades, from large organizations to small “start-ups”. He was instrumental in developing innovative programs and systems that were often too premature for the US market. He later went back to the corporate world but decided it was no longer for him. After moving to Beaufort, SC, Joe started his own consulting practice and worked solving problems for small businesses and individuals. It was probably the work he most enjoyed! During his career, Joe served as president of NJ Association of Computer Professionals and was active in other related organizations. While living in Beaufort, SC, he served as Board President for Beaufort County Search & Rescue Squadron and led the SC Turtle Rescue program on the Coffin Point community for several years as well. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will take place at Tryon Estates Chapel in Columbus on Saturday, May 16th @ 1pm. Joe was a dog lover, and it was mutual! If you are so inclined, donate in his honor to Foothills Humane Society, Columbus, NC (foothillshumanesociety.org) and he will surely be smiling down at you.
