Joe Richard Poole

Joe was introduced to this world the son of Hamon L. Poole and Erma Anderson Poole residents of Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was proud of the fact that he was raised in a log cabin built by his father. He was a graduate of Hendersonville High School Class of 1956. He continued his education in Cullowhee, North Carolina at his beloved Western Carolina University graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1960. While attending WCU, Joe was a Founding Brother and Treasurer of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity established December 5, 1959. Also, he was recognized in Who's Who Among Students at American Universities and Colleges.

After graduation in 1960, his career began with General Electric Credit Corporation working in Charleston, South Carolina. He was transferred to Fayetteville, North Carolina and later, moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where he met his future wife, Mary Elizabeth (Becky) Harwood. Their union produced two sons, Steve and Scott.

Other transfers include Charlotte, North Carolina, Knoxville, Tenn., Atlanta, Ga. on to Asheville, North Carolina as District Manager for Western North Carolina.

He was determined to remain in North Carolina and not leave the Blue Ridge Mountains, therfore, after 15 years he resigned from General Electric Credit Corporation.

He started a new career in the Administration Division with the Hunter Automotive Dealership in Hendersonville and remained there until his retirement.

He was a true mountain man who cherished his friends and their adventures together, truth and honor and his desire to be buried in the mountain soil he loved so much.

A Memorial Service will be 11 am Friday, March 15, 2024 at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC.
