Joan Reiter Cochran, lovingly known by many as, first and foremost, a devoted follower of Christ, a faithful friend, compassionate caregiver, and servant-hearted woman, passed away peacefully at the age of 87.
Joan was born in February 1939 in New York City. She graduated from New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing and later received her BSN from Cedarville University. For 38 years, she faithfully served through the Visiting Nurse Association in Cleveland, where she became far more than a nurse to those in her care. She was a friend, confidant, advisor, benefactor, and source of comfort to countless patients and families. In recognition of her extraordinary compassion and dedication, she was honored as Caregiver of the Year.
Joan shared a devoted marriage with her beloved husband, Chuck, and together they spent countless days serving others on mission trips, living out their faith side by side.
She found great joy in quilting and was an incredibly talented seamstress. Her life was beautifully woven together with compassion, generosity, hospitality, and unwavering faith.
Joan was an irreplaceable part of both her family and her “framily,” touching countless lives through her gentle spirit and servant’s heart. Her absence leaves a tremendous void, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing and loving her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helen Reiter; her brother, Dan; and two daughters of the heart, Karen “Casie” and Kim.
She is survived by her sister, Carol; two nephews, Carl and Andrew; a son-in-love, Bill; two granddaughters not connected by blood, but forever bonded in love, Lindsay and Lisa; along with countless cherished “framily” members whom she loved dearly.
Though her earthly journey has ended, Joan now walks hand in hand with Jesus, and the legacy of love, compassion, and faithfulness she leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
Above all, Joan wanted everyone to know her final testimony of faith:
"I am with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ the Messiah, who promised an eternity in Heaven."
