Rick Honeycutt, age 68, of Gilkey, NC, passed away December 18, 2021, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.
He was born March 8, 1953, in Spartanburg, SC, son of the late James Verle Honeycutt and Ada Lovenia Greene Honeycutt.
Rick enjoyed dirt track racing and riding Harley’s! He really loved racing at the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC, as well as building racecars. Rick raced at several dirt tracks around the Carolinas including Harris Speedway and Cherokee Speedway. Just as much as driving a racecar, Rick loved building them. In 1996 he received a Crew Chief of the Year Award from Greenhill Motor Speedway. As a crew chief, he was able to help Roger Parker, Chris Jackson, and Wallace Jackson get their first win as well as many more wins over the next few years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Honeycutt, and leaves behind three sisters, Gloria Herrera (Pete), of Albuquerque, NM, Vickie Honeycutt and Jean Covington, of Columbus, NC.
Those left to honor his memory include his two sons, Brian Honeycutt (Becky) and Robbie Honeycutt, and his daughter, Nicole Robinson (Ryan), and four grandchildren, Austin Lancaster, Seth Honeycutt, Montana Honeycutt, and Ruby Robinson.
A graveside service will be held 2 PM Thursday, December 23rd, 2021, at the Broad River Baptist Church Cemetery.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
