Imogene Childers

Imogene Fortune Childers, age 88 of Hendersonville, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on November 29, 2024. 

She was born on May 16, 1936, in Brevard, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Callie Mae Bagwell and Albert Sydney Fortune, as well as her sister Mary Ann Perera.  

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, David Edward Childers, who was the love of her life and has taken wonderful care of her over the past several years; their loving daughter Gigi Childers Daniels (John); sisters, Betty Fortune Owen and Wilma Fortune Hatton, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Imogene worked at Olin in Brevard for a few years, provided Day Care in her home for a number of children in the area, and finally found her true passion when she became a talented chair caner and ran The Old and New Shop for a number of years before retiring. She continued to repair chairs at home for customers near and far, until her health would no longer allow it.

She was described as the kindest and sweetest lady by anyone she met and will be so very missed by all of those whose lives she has touched.
