Obituary

Garrett (Gary) Smith Horton, 81, passed away March 31, 2023, at Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC.

He was born December 7, 1941, in Laurel, Delaware to the late Albert and Eleanor Smith Horton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Horton.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Daniel and Wanda Horton of Texas; brother David and wife, Peggy Horton of Florida; sister, Betsy and husband, Pete Kinner of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary served in the US Army from 1963 – 1967.  He graduated from the University of Delaware with an Engineering degree.  He worked as a Computer Technician at IBM Communications for 25 years in Arlington, Virginia.

He stayed very busy after his retirement by volunteering at the National Smithsonian Institute.  He also traveled  on several cruises to Europe and Australia.  He lived in Myrtle Beach, SC, for ten years and spent the last eight years at Tryon Estates. In his spare time he enjoyed playing bridge, working jig saw puzzles and crossword puzzles.

A Graveside Service will be held later this summer in Laurel, Delaware where he will be buried beside his wife, Elizabeth Horton.
