Eric Turner Obituary

Eric Thomas Turner passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at home in Tryon, North Carolina.   Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Thomas Earl and Mary Shope Turner, who proceeded him in death.

Eric had a lifelong love of broadcasting, starting at the young age of 4 with a small tape recorder.  He was a 1982 graduate of North Gallia High School in Vinton, Ohio, and began his professional radio career in 1983 at WJEH-WYPC in Gallipolis, Ohio.  Eric learned virtually every position at the radio stations and was known throughout the Tri State Region.   He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rio Grande in 1988 in Public Relations/Communications.

Eric’s radio career led him to WGKS-WLGX Radio in Lexington, Kentucky, where he was Air Personality and News Director, but he ultimately returned to his radio roots in Gallipolis for the remainder of his radio career.  During this time, he was Executive Producer for the Ohio University Radio Network for football and basketball season as well as on-camera co-host for “Bobcat Sports Magazine” on the Fox Sports TV Network.  It was there that he got the “bug” for video.  After 14 years of being colleagues and friends, Eric married the love of his life, Lynn Wagner Turner on February 15, 1997.

The following year, Eric and Lynn left radio and started their own production business – ETLT Productions in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Many years of adventures would follow, including a move to North Carolina in 2006.  Eric was the consummate collaborator and team player, and he worked to build a production team that would eventually become Stars Creative.  Along with Lynn as videographer, Eric created amazing work that included the talents of Motion Graphics Artist, Caio Caldas of Brazil… Musician/Composer Benji Jackson of Australia… and Eric’s lifelong mentor, Doug Limerick (formerly of ABC News Radio) as voiceover artist.  Eric leaves behind a body of work second to none.

Eric is survived by his wife, Lynn, as well as brothers David (Brenda) Turner of Montgomery, Alabama; Steven ( Devvie) Turner of Bloomery, West Virginia; and Thomas Turner, Jr. of Augusta, West Virginia; a first cousin, Janis (James) Lee of Yorkville, Illinois, and many friends and colleagues around the world.

A celebration of Eric’s life will take place in Tryon, North Carolina at a later date.
