Dennis Herbert Spangenburg

Dennis, age 72, passed unexpectedly at his home in Lake Lure, NC.

He is preceded in death by parents Donald and Mae Spangenburg, and brother Donald Spangenburg II, sister Sandra Campanali.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Barbara (Langley) Spangenburg, son Eric Spangenburg of Akron, Ohio, Daughter Sara (Spangenburg) Hiskey of Casper, Wyoming, grandson Jack Von Spangenburg also of Akron.  He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their many children.

Dennis graduated from Coventry High School in Coventry Township, Ohio.  He continued in the field of Automobile mechanics and Automobile paint and bodywork. Dennis owned and operated many companies, his last being Spangenburg Enterprises, Inc. in Lure, NC. Many of his friends and associates in Akron will remember him from his partnership with Guy Miller at Akron Auto Painting, Inc.  He co-managed AAP for 16 years before moving to the North Carolina mountains and establishing Spangenburg Enterprises, Inc.

His love for bringing dented, peeling paint, or rusted cars to the beauty they once were was really his passion.  He always wanted to take the extra step in helping his customers see their repaired cars as new again. Dennis was a full-blown Volkswagen lover.  He owned many throughout his life and cherished everyone, even if they didn’t deserve it.

Dennis was loved by many and everyone who came to know him, knew he was dependable and trustworthy.  He kept many of his high school friendships in Akron to this day.  He also made many lasting friendships with his neighbors and customers. He will be remembered for his honesty, his animated stories and his willingness to help the people who needed it.

Dennis will be missed by many.

The family will have a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 12:30 pm till 2 pm at Sanders Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or The Hurricane Helene Relief Fund.
