Peacefully surrounded by his family, Clinton Wayne Rathburn passed away on Feb 1st, 2025 at the age of 85.
We are rejoicing in the fact that we know he is with his Heavenly Father and family who have gone on before him. He leaves behind one son, Michael (Cheryl), 2 grandsons, Bradley (Madison), Doug (Andrea), niece and caretaker Brandy (James) their two sons, Shawn and Jaqwon, Shawn’s daughter Azalea, one brother, Jimmy (Kathy) sister in law Martha (Haskell) and brother in law Sam (Bitsy). He was predeceased by his wife Mary Jo Jones Rathburn, his parents Edgar Rathbone, Rosa Hawkins Rathburn, brother Paul Rathburn and several pets that he considered family, Chi Chi, Buzz and Bonnie. Clint was born in Yancey County, but moved to the Upward community in his youth. He was a proud graduate of Dana high school. He had numerous jobs over the years. He sold furniture at Sturkey’s, ran produce for Lawrence Lyda trucking, and shuttled cars for Hunter’s, Chat Jones, and Coleman Freeman Auto Sales. He was most proud of running his own filling stations. The first was a PURE station downtown and then an Amoco on 6th and Main where he provided high test gasoline, good conversation and service with a smile. He enjoyed bowling at Paradise Lanes, car shows and going to Lake Keowee with his family. He was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church. Clint never met a stranger.
No services are planned at his request. There wouldn’t be a place big enough in Hendersonville to hold all his friends anyway.
Donations can be made in his honor to the Henderson County Humane Society, Elizabeth House, or Boys and Girls Clubs.
