Bransel R. Godfrey, 78, went home to his heavenly father, Tuesday February 2, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
Rudy, as he was affectionately known, served in the US Navy as a frogman. Upon his retirement from service, Rudy entered into the textile industry until his retirement in 1992.
The same year he established Godfrey Equipment Company Incorporated where he designed textile equipment that sits all over the world.
Apart from managing his own company Rudy enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Landrum and Florence Godfrey and grandson David Bennett.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Betty Wilson Godfrey formerly of Green Creek NC; daughters, Jody (Scott) Sawyer of Newberry, SC, Laurie (Kirby) Maitland of Alberta, Va; son Dennis (Sandy) Godfrey of Atlanta, Ga. Grandchildren: Brook (Dustin) Barnett, Joshua, Bremen, Shield and Bethany Sawyer, Nicholas Godfrey, Brandon Chafin,
Ann (Bryan) Gill, Bransel (Alina) Bennett, Alexis and Samantha Maitland; and ten great-grandchildren; sisters Reba Gardner of Woodruff, SC. and JoAnn Marbert of Athens, Ga.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
