Margaret Vance (Hamilton) Thomas

Surrounded by loving family members, Margaret (Maggie) Vance Thomas (nee Hamilton), passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, October 26, 2019 at home, after a long battle with cancer.

She leaves behind her husband Paul, daughter Mary Klakamp (Wiedel) and husband Michael. She also leaves her sister Elizabeth Daniels and husband Danny, Paul's son Owen Thomas, wife Elena and granddaughter April in Vancouver BC. She will be deeply missed by everyone she knew.

Maggie was born in Fort Knox, KY on December 17, 1953. She grew up in Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN. Throughout the mid 70's she attended the University of Montana State in Bozeman, where she became an avid skier and received her degree in nursing. She began her nursing career in Fargo/Moorhead as an orthopedic surgical nurse in the same hospital as her father Thomas Hamilton MD. She moved to Billings, MT, and then to Hebron, NE where her daughter Mary was born. They then moved to Hendersonville, NC, where Maggie was an operating room nurse for 18 years at the Asheville Surgery Center. Maggie and Paul retired two years ago, both of them dedicating their time and energies toward seeking a cure for her cancer.

Maggie was known for her positive outlook, her great sense of humor, and her infectious laugh. She loved surrounding herself with her many friends and traveling with her daughter Mary. She cherished the days spent on 'the floating house' on Fontana Lake with Paul, Duffy and Nilla. 

A service to celebrate Maggie's life will be 2 :00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Mills River Presbyterian Church, 10 Presbyterian Church Rd. Mills River, NC 28759.

Family, friends and neighbors are warmly invited.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society Research or Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville.
