Gordon Balser Sr., age 75, of Mill Spring, NC, passed away, on June 7, 2018.
Gordon is survived by his three children, Angela (Joe) Garcia, Gordon (Mary) Balser Jr., and Kevin (Tammy) Balser. He also has twelve grandchildren, and three (soon to be four) great grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly by his sister Marcia Toki, and his four brothers Fred, Dave, Dean, and John.
Gordon was born in Maine on May 16, 1943 to John and Sarah (Davis) Balser. He cherished the memories of his childhood growing up in Maine. Later, Gordon served in the United States Navy for 20 years as a Communications Technician. During his time in the Navy, Gordon travelled the world and was stationed in the Philippines, Germany, and Puerto Rico, as well as duty stations in Maryland and Florida. After retiring from the Navy, he lived and worked in Sumter, South Carolina for several years. Gordon spent the last years of his life living and working in the Mountains of Western North Carolina. His last job before retiring was Geospatial mapping of Henderson County. He had the pleasure of travelling the mountain roads taking satellite pictures. He even got to name a few of the roads in the area. His final years were spent under the care of his son Gordon Balser, Jr. and family.
Gordon’s immediate family will have a simple mountain top service on June 12, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
