Dorothy Louise (Kaepernik) Hansen passed away on Monday, February 26 at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC.
Dorothy was 88 years old and the daughter of William and Ruth (Cain) Kaepernik. She was born March 25, 1929 in Newport, DE.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Herbert R. Hansen, Sr., her son Herb Hansen and his wife Annette Leps of Lutherville, MD, her daughter Wendy Hudson and her husband William Hudson of Colts Neck, NJ, granddaughter Casey Hansen of Lutherville, MD, granddaughter Kelly Huyler and her husband Garrett Huyler of Oak Creek, WI, her brother William Kaepernik and his wife Carol of Seminole, FL, and her sister-in-law Ruth Stoveken and her husband James Stoveken of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Betty Walters, and her sister Shirley Kaepernik.
Dorothy was a graduate of Metuchen High School in Metuchen, NJ in 1946 and the Washington Secretarial School.
She grew up and raised her family in Menlo Park, NJ. She and Herb moved to Columbus, NC in 1990 and they moved to Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC in 2014.
Family and her many friends were very important to Dorothy. She and Herb were also active square dancers for many years and they developed many friends doing this. Dorothy enjoyed doing genealogy research on her family throughout the country and the world. Dorothy also enjoyed travel and history. She and Herb were very involved with the Polk County Historical Museum in Columbus for many years.
The memorial service will be private and her ashes will be interred at Tryon Estates.
